Training

I've been plugging away the miles each Saturday with Lisa and the Birmingham Track Club.  4:45am wake up call is definitely the hardest part.  Yesterday I got a little earlier wake up call around 1:30am when Kyle couldn't sleep and took his temperate which ran close to 100.5. Luckily it fluctuated and since he felt fine, the dr said no need to come to the hospital. Thank goodness!! 3:00am we were back in bed falling asleep lying awake again.  Before I knew it the alarm was going off and I debated.... but nonetheless, the 20 miles won over sleep bc I know in the long run (no pun intended) what will pay off... and a nap would be happening anyways, so off I went.

First 20-miler of the season and overall I felt strong.  A lot different than the first 20-miler I remember doing last training... whew.  I am convinced last week's 18 miles definitely made me stronger.  I could go on and on about what it was like, but Lisa sums it up great here.  If only we had a picture to document the madness.  My raw feet were daily reminders last week though.  Memories I won't forget and would rather not relive again.

Some things I can't live without during my long runs:

-Good, sweat wicking socks.
-Pre and post banana
-Gu chomps to fuel during the run
-GATORADE and water of course
-BODY GLIDE
-Endurox R4- to help re-build my muscles.  It's the perfect ratio of carbs/protein, and although the fruit punch flavor isn't the most appetizing, I know it's important
-Ice Bath- makes a huge difference in walking the day of and next day.  Plus it numbs the pain for a good hour. yesssss

20 miles to ring in the 25th! Not a bad start to the day!

  1. For some reason, this Saturday was one of the first times I actually used body glide. Um, that would have helped a while back. No new running rash from Saturday! Yay!
