It's Time.

So I decided last week I'm going to go for it. I'm just going to do it already.

2.12.12. Mekelle Bess is running the Birmingham Mercedes Marathon! 26.2 miles. Bring it.

I might have temporarily lost my mind...but I do love to run, and I've done 6 half marathons, and it's on my bucket list, and and and...why not just do it while I have the time? No kids, a busy husband, I need to do something besides work to keep me sane.

Am I scared? YES. The things I'm worried about? running long distances alone (mentally this can be tough), and training in the winter. However, it will be so much better than training in the humid summer here. So bring on the winter running capris, jackets, etc. Wanna know what I'm asking for for Christmas? you got it.

Training kicked off with 15 miles on Saturday. I broke my personal distance record. Broke through the 13.1! Kyle met me for the last 5 miles and was a lifesaver. Poor guy had to go a little slower than he would have liked I'm sure, and we did take a breather at one point.... :)

I think I'll be stealing this from Kyle the next couple of months

So I decided that if I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it right. I mean stay hydrated, eat healthy, train like I'm supposed to, drink the right recovery drinks, take ice baths after 17+ mile runs, etc. I DO NOT want to get injured. (the main reason I've been so hesitant in the past)

So I invested in this guy last week. (TJ Maxx i love your deals). I thought 15 miles made me legit enough to use one. And I was really excited about taking gatorade with me. Turns out, a mile in I couldn't stand having this on so I hid it in the bushes and picked it back up at mile 9. I was grateful for it at that point and it no longer bugged me. I'm pretty sure my mind was on other things by that point.

The rest of the day I lounged around and did the shuffle around town. You know, the walk where you don't really pick up your feet. Surprisingly my legs were good to go today. It's amazing what the body can do.
