A runner's worst nightmare

happened to me this morning.  I set off to run 7 miles-ish and left from our house, headed towards greensprings then on to the lakeshore trail.  Working on running faster, everything was going my way: the weather was cloudy, slight breeze, low 70s, etc.  The last mile I was heading home on greensprings when all the sudden my foot struck the edge of the sidewalk and took me down.  Before I realized what happened I was on the ground and severe pain started throbbing in my ankle. Noooooooooo.  Someone tell me this did NOT just happen.

I have a semi-bad habit of running close the edge, and I'm not sure why.  Knowing there was no possible way I could walk home, I lied on the side walk and waved at cars for someone to stop and let me use their cell phone.  Thank you kind stranger for pulling over to help me.  She was concerned and then started laughing as the cops showed up and she realized someone probably thought she hit me.  Several people pulled over and I felt like such a loser. How do you just sprain your ankle on the sidewalk? But it hurt so bad!

There goes the triathlon! And the next few weeks of running.  Good thing the Bachelorette is starting Monday to ease my depression.  Time to get my weights on. As I balance on one leg.

  1. Dang, Mekelle, that really stinks! I'm so sorry. Now I really wish I had been with you so I could have called in help or carried you home. And right before a race is so frustrating. :(
