Yesterday I was grum-py. I woke up at 5:30am on a sunday morning to go run. In the cold. And dark. I did not want to do this. My only motivation? My curiosity about the course.
So 6:30 am rolls around and steph and I strap on our new gu belts to give them a try, and head off with the hundred or so others on our half marathon endeavor to see just what we are in for in 2 weeks. We got a taste of the hills, potent yellow gatorade (yum!), and mile markers where we are planning on planting our family members/fan base.
We finished 13.1 at 1:49 averaging 8:26 pace. And then started going through all the scenarios of what can happen for us to still get sub 4, or not get sub 4. Sub 4 stands the goal as of now. But we shall see. The real goal is just to finish!!! That's what it should be for your first one, right? duh.
So my feelings as of now: The first half you run through the ghetto! seriously?! So ugly. And I would never want to run there alone. hmmm... First half is definitely harder than the second half. Good thing. There is a pretty decent hill around mile 6 and 19, but nothing we can't handle.
Afterwards I came home and took a hot shower, layed on the bed for a minute, started to fall asleep until Kyle came and woke me up to tell me we had to leave in 20 minutes, raced to church, tried to keep my eyes open, came home from church and crashed for 2 hours and I'm pretty sure I could've slept all night.
Not sure what I'll feel like after the race. Sleep for 24 hours straight possibly? Now on to watch the Bachelor. Happy Monday!
girl if you run a sub-4 for your first marathon I will be BEYOND impressed! Seriously, it will probably take me 5 hours to run through NYC in November! I will definitely be thinking about you in a few weeks - so exciting.

Oh you have TOTALLY got a sub 4!
ReplyDeleteIt's so funny I also have a similar nap experience after a long morning run. I lay down in bed, thinking that I'll get up in just a second...and before I know it, hours have passed.
Thanks for your positivity! :) You're awesome. If only I can run mine like you did your last one and I'll be good. haha
DeleteI run a lot of stuff in town with my brother that I would not run alone. Kind of fun to see different sides of the city. Hey, some girls watch the Bachelor on Monday nights together. Sometimes at Desiree's, sometimes at other places. You should come watch with us!
ReplyDeleteya! That would be so fun. I'll have to come one of these weeks!
