night run

This is what it looks like running on a cold Wed night at 5:30pm in Birmingham. There is a group of us. But wearing all black is probably not the smartest idea. However I do have a sweet headlamp. Yes, that's right. It saves me from getting hit by cars and spraining my ankle. And it's the cool night runner thing, don't worry.

Want to know how to run your fastest mile? Follow a couple speed demons on a run where you don't know where you are. It forces you to keep up with them even if you don't want to. Being cold and thinking about a hot shower and Modern Family at the end helps too. I think we ran our fastest mile tonight. boo ya! 8 miles. check!

Afterwards we were talking to those speedies and found out that she ran cc at GA Tech (ok that explains a lot) and they were telling us all sorts of fun things about marathons. Things I learned-- and I quote:

"My calves were still sore 3 weeks later."
"The first marathon is the best because you're so naive. You don't know the pain you'll be in at the end, so you're more relaxed."

Awesome.
