cooking is like running

Some do it because they love it, others because they need to. Some enjoy the practice, others just make it a daily task. And some days you feel like you can conquer the world, while other days it's not so easy.

Let's just say that 7 out of 10 times, cooking for me is the latter part of the statements. Maybe it's because it seems that most times I'm either burning something (trying to multi task), spending more time cleaning up the kitchen that actually making the meal, and frustrated that things don't always turn out when I follow the recipe exactly. I do, I swear. My lack of patience, now that may play a factor...

Seriously though, by the time you go to the store, spend 20 bucks on ingredients, and 1-2+ hrs in the kitchen, what is more frustrating than something NOT turning out? You tell me.

This weekend me and the kitchen were not friends.

Exhibit A- Sat night. Church chili cook off and pie eating contest. 1.5 hours and a burned pie crust later.

pie crust #2

Then there was the chicken pot pie I've made 4+ times that decided not to turn out like it usually does...

And now I'm going to go eat my gooey, didn't-quite-turn out-like-they-should have, I've-made-better "no bake" cookies.

case and point.

And, what in the world happened to the cougars on Sat???? I'll blame this all on them. bad bad luck. and super embarrassing.

  1. Oh, you poor girl, I feel ya! Luckily though, I know how to make about 5 things correctly and I stick to 'em, haha. No testing new waters here. I love that you blogged about this too because I literally just tried making cookies tonight, which I haven't done in forever because it ALWAYS turns into a disaster... but for once in my life it was a success! If I can do it, so can you <3

P.S. I recently watched The Blindside and The Help, as well as read both books related to them and I am totally obsessed with the South right now! Can we pretty please come visit you :)

  2. I hear ya. Cooking is such a letdown sometimes. You commit yourself for so long, and end up with less than desirable results. I'll admit I've been known to shed a few tears in the kitchen.
